Kota Ezawa

Oakland-based artist Kota Ezawa transforms imagery drawn from news media, art history, photography, film, and popular culture into a distinctive visual language of flattened forms and color. Working across video animation, light boxes, murals, sculpture, watercolor, and public art, he reduces familiar images to their essential elements, inviting viewers to reconsider their cultural and historical associations. Ezawa’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major museum collections including MoMA, SFMOMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
